Cable Franchise & Hearing Board Vote to Extend Public Access Contract With Quote-Unquote.
January 5, 2012 10:45pm MT
ALBUQUERQUE, NM--By a vote of 3 to 0, the City of Albuquerque's Cable Franchise and Hearing Board tonight voted to recommend that Quote-Unquote Inc. be awarded the contract to operate Public Access Channel 27 and Encantada TV Channel 26.
Board chair Martin Etheridgehill expressed support for Quote « Unquote Inc. after a careful evaluation of both Quote-Unquote's response to the RFP to run the channels as well as the proposal of competitor GCMA dba uPublicTV. The two other board members, RoseMarie Sanchez and Victoria Warner, also expressed full support for Quote-Unquote keeping the contract, citing their more than 30 years experience running the access channels.
An ad hoc evaluation committee in October had recommended to Mayor Berry that uPublic get the contract. Quote-Unquote filed a formal protest on November 9, 2011 and as yet has not received a response from the City. Quote-Unquote's contract expired on December 31, 2011; the City gave Quote-Unquote a three monthextension that expires on March 31, 2012. (read on the Quote-Unquote site)
